Really love this, Vanessa! Your points are well taken--and I agree that we often forget that our bigness is truly an asset. It's a heckuva lot harder to completely overrun something as big as we are! You're also right that doesn't mean there isn't suffering--and there will be more. But total collapse? I don't think that's likely at all.
Something you wrote that I think sums the situation up pretty well: "Even with everything happening in the world and up in this country… the bigness of these United States is an asset. It’s going to help, with everything we’re dealing with. With world instability. With war. With threats and risks. With our own country’s government being very actively changed more than it has been for decades and decades. With climate change. With disasters. With oil, with reductions to oil, and with other changes to energy."
Yep. And your drawing parallels to the US and Ukraine also resonates. Different countries and peoples, different (but intertwined) issues, but I think it's the will of the people, the spirit of the people that will pull both countries through. We've got a lot of work to do--but I think we've got this, provided we show up in November in the tsunami that all of us want.
This winter is going to be warmest on record. That truly horrifies me. California better start building those desalination plants! And make sure not to draw in water where those corporations dumped all those BARRELS of chemicals and piles of tires! 🤯☠️
